MEDAU SOCIETY TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME 2007/8


This course combines the Medau Society Teacher's Award and the City and Guilds 7303 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

The Society is recognized by the City and Guilds of London Institute as an Approved Centre, offering the C&G 7303 (Level 3) qualification in our own context.

The course is divided into two stages:-

Stage 1: Ten Saturdays and two residential weekends
Starting September 2007, dates to be confirmed

  • Experience movement and develop an understanding of the principles and qualities of Medau movement
  • Discover the range of small hand held apparatus and its use as a teaching aid
  • Develop rhythmic awareness and response
  • Gain an understanding of melody, harmony, rhythm and form
  • Appreciate and gain practical experience of the Medau approach to lesson planning, its form and structure
  • Practice teaching within the peer group
  • Gain a basic understanding of how the body works
  • Receive theoretical and practical knowledge of First Aid, and guidelines on the preparation of a first aid kit
  • Gather enough information, knowledge and experience to start teaching a class

 

Stage 2: Eight Saturdays and two residential weekends.

  • Improve on movement skills - personal performance
  • Develop further experience and understanding of Medau Breathing Movement
  • Broaden teaching skills - demonstration, use of voice, rhythmic accompaniment
  • Introduce the use of hand held percussion, used as an accompaniment for movement
  • Expand knowledge of commercially produced music, which can be used for accompaniment
  • Further develop lesson planning - emphasis on themes and schemes of work
  • Gain insight into the principles and theories of Adults Learning and their application to our work
  • Build confidence and further competence when teaching
  • This unit includes guidance and preparation necessary for C&G assignments and individual tutorials
